Yes, we did have a nice party on Sunday August 7! The heavy rain that morning provoked some doubt but by 1 PM the skies were clear and we had a lovely afternoon.  Many thanks to all who brought treats for our guests!  No doubt, we have some talented bakers in our group.  Thanks so much for your generosity!  Donna and Kent Orlandini were a great help with table set up and arranging docents for house tours.  Thanks D&K!  At least 30 folks toured the house and the hand-painted garden accoutrements by Mary Kay were definitely a point of interest to all.  There was ample appreciation for the beautiful gardens….lots of praise for the many varieties of coleus tucked throughout the gardens.  Humming birds were on hand (Dave Urhausen will testify to that) and the pond was jumping with frogs!  Highest count on frogs was 6 and one posed nicely for a photo.  It was wonderful to have so many garden club members come to visit the garden.  As always, your interest and support are greatly appreciated!

A huge thank you to Dan Beebe, Dick Darrah, and Tom who recently repaired the garden’s sprinkler system! Working conditions were brutal with sweltering humid 90+ degree  weather but these three guys preservered and the plants and gardeners are very grateful!

We are also appreciative of a recent memorial doanation in memory of Keith Letsche’s aunt.  We are mulling over possibilities for this rememberance and your suggestions are welcome.

Our latest project in the garden is a major overhaul of the east fence line.  We have basically been ignoring  this area and it is a mess!  Once its cleared, we plan to install some Rose of Sharon (ROS) shrubs.  If anyone has a ROS to donate we would love it!  We do have some  seedlings, which grow pretty quickly, but some good size ones would really help.  We can come dig if you have something.

The gardening season is starting to wind down but there is one last event in the garden that you don’t want to miss.  The Historical Society’s Ice cream Social  will be Sept 10, 12-3 PM.  The cakes and pies they serve are phenominal! And the  silent auction always has great stuff!  If you have a donation for the auction contact Donna Orlandini at 630.231.2671.

Enjoy your gardens as fall approaches and stop tp visit Kruse Garden anytime!
