March 24th Meeting: Foraging for Wild Edibles

Our March speaker, naturalist David Brooks of Spring Valley Nature Center in Schaumburg, will be presenting “Foraging for Wild Edibles.” Foraging for wild edible plants requires knowledge and skill possessed by our ancestors but lost to most of us. This introduction will show you how, when and where to gather a variety of highly nutritious and delicious wild plants as well as provide recipes and other preparation tips. Suggestions and resources for improving your wild plant identification skills will also be available.

We are planning to hold the March meeting in person as usual this month. If there are changes due to the ongoing pandemic, we will notify members via email and calling-post. Masks are now optional and we will be having refreshments before the meeting.

Meeting Location: St Andrew Lutheran Church NE Corner of Prince Crossing & Geneva Road.

Meeting Time: 6:45PM Refreshments – 7:00PM Business Meeting – 7:15PM Program

February 24th: Native Plants

The West Chicago Garden Club has returned to monthly, in person, meetings. Our February 24th meeting will feature speaker Denise Sandoval, an award-winning landscape designer and owner of Good Natured Landscaping. She has over 20 years of experience with native plants. We open the doors at 6:45, have a short business meeting at 7:00 and the speaker begins by 7:15pm. Our location is at St. Andrew Lutheran Church at the corner of Prince Crossing Rd and Geneva Rd, West Chicago.

In her program, “Gardening with Native Plants Through the Seasons,” Sandoval will take us through the seasons as we discover plants that are great for wildlife, grow well, and are beautiful in the garden, including small-medium landscapes. She will also share design tips for these plants.

The West Chicago Garden Club is open to anyone who enjoys gardening, from beginners to masters. Our members come from throughout the Western suburbs. Visitors are welcome to come to our meetings. At this time, masks are required at our meetings.
